Never Mind The Daleks

Phil Jupitus who is well known for being a team captain on Never Mind the Buzzcocks is talking about a Never Mind the Buzzcocks Doctor Who Christmas Special on Twitter.
Apparently it will star Bernard Cribbins and Jo Whiley on Phil's team and Noel Fielding's team will feature Catherine Tate and Jamie Cullum. To make it even better, Mr David Tennant will be the guest presenter.

No transmission date has been announced but it is expected to be during the week leading up to Christmas and apparently, they recorded it yesterday.

Sarah Jane Adventures Reminder

Don't forget that tonight, part 1 of The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith is aired on BBC1 at 4:35pm!

The Doctor isn't in it until the very end but tomorrow we'll have 25 minutes of Tennant to enjoy!

A nice little coincidence - tonight we see the Doctor on our TV's once more (Albeit for only a few seconds) and it was one year ago today that the Doctor himself, Mr David Tennant, announced his departure from the TARDIS.
Since then we've had two brilliant hours of Doctor Who and we've still got over 200 minutes of Tennant to enjoy (Including Specials, SJA, Dreamland etc.). The best is yet to come!

Doctor Who: Children In Need

Russell had said this before but it has now been confirmed - this Children in Need, we will see a preview of the Christmas special like last year.

This means that by 20th November (CiN), we will have seen The Waters of Mars so it's most likely going to be broadcast on Saturday 7th November or Saturday 14th! Not long then!

Oh and don't forget we'll be celebrating Children in Need here at News Through Time And Space and raising money! Hopefully the celebrations and fundraising will start on 1st November after our Halloween celebration and competition! Stay tuned!

Doctor Who - Project 3

Something I've been meaning to post about for a week now.

Earlier in the year, Russell T Davies said that the Doctor Who team were working on three special projects (Not the specials) to do with The Doctor for this year.
The first was The Doctor in Sarah Jane Adventures.
The second was Dreamland.
But we still knew nothing about the third. Rumours suggested it would be a Children in Need mini episode but Russell denied this and said that they didn't have time to do a CiN scene this year and so they would just show a preview of part 1 of "The End of Time" as they did last year with "The Next Doctor".
Then, Russell announced with great sadness that the third project had fallen through.

But in the latest issue of DWM, he says otherwise:
Just this morning, I saw the edit of Special Project 3 - it's not for Children in Need, it's something else - and it looks amazing, though God knows what it'll do to canon!

Very exciting!
So just what is the third project?
Some people seem to think it will be Doctor Who Christmas Idents but as much as I would love this, I don't think it is that because he says "God knows what it'll do to canon!".

Barry Letts (1925-2009)

Barry Letts, well known for his work producing Classic Doctor Who, sadly passed away yesterday at the age of 84.

Letts was once an actor but became a producer in the 1960's and soon found work as a director on several BBC programmes. His first work on Doctor Who was a director of the 2nd Doctor adventure, Enemy of the World and went on to accept the job of producer of Jon Pertwee's first series in 1969. Letts worked on Doctor Who for the following five series'.

Letts was involved in the creation of Sarah Jane Smith who, of course, still stars in the show occasionally to this day and even has her own spin off show and he also was included in the decision to cast the legend that is Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor.

He helped to keep an eye on series 16 of Doctor Who back in 1978 when producer, Graham Williams broke his leg and Barry later worked as Executive Producer in 1980. For many years thereafter, Letts wrote novels, novelisations and radio serials connected to the programme. He also appeared on DVD commentaries and in various documentaries.

Despite no longer working on the show, Barry remained a fan and was connected with the show right up until his death.Barry Letts was also well known for his work on Eastenders amongst the many other shows he worked on.

Yesterday, just a few hours before Letts died it was announced that he would be doing a signing soon of his autobiography (right) which is due for release in November. Unfortunately, that will never happen.

It is a great loss not just Doctor Who fans but for the entire world.

Many of those results surprised me. I was amazed that Caves came out on top. I've never seen it personally but I've never heard anyone else say it's their favourite episode.

I was going to get the Empty Child cover but accidently found out who won the poll last night and so, whilst that annoyed me at first, it meant I could get the winning cover.

Dreamland Update!

It has recently been announced that surprisingly, Dreamland, the animated Doctor Who story starring David Tennant, will be coming to a living room near you in the latter half of October! Seems very soon to me but welcome nonetheless!

No exact transmission date has been revealed yet but we now have a rough idea!

We`ve been waiting so long for more Who and now we`ve got a ton coming up all at once:

October 15th - November 20th: Sarah Jane Adventures Series Three
Late October: Dreamland
Halloween or November: The Waters of Mars
Children In Need: Preview of next Who special
Christmas: The End of Time

Then a little bit later:
January or April 2010: Series Five
Spring 2010: K9

National Television Awards

This years National Television Awards sees Doctor Who And Torchwood go head to head.They are both up for the Best Drama award along with 34 other programmes whilst David Tennant, John Barrowman and Eve Myles are all up for awards in the best Drama Performance category along with 45 other contenders.

Make sure you vote for any Who related nominations!

I found it quite difficult to choose between Torchwood and Doctor Who for best drama. Children of Earth was even better than most Who episodes but I want Doctor Who to continue to win countless awards so went for that.

Over the past few weeks we've been treated to a feast of fantastic clips in Doctor Who's Greatest Moments and stars like David Tennant and Freema Agyeman have discussed why certain scenes hold a place in their hearts.

But what about you?

The BBC Doctor Who Webiste want to hear which moments brought a tear to your eye, a lump to your throat or made you punch the air with glee. It could be any scene from the show's history.

Does the Doctor meeting Rose for the first time still make you smile? Does the Second Doctor talking to Victoria about his parents make you sad - in a good way! Or possibly your moment is Sarah Jane finding the Tenth Doctor after so many years apart - or meeting the Third Doctor for the very first time? The Master watching Teletubbies in 2007 or enjoying The Clangers in 1972?

But most importantly they want to know why they're your greatest moments. Was it the scene where you realised David Tennant was going to be a brilliant Doctor? Or the scene that first got you hooked on Doctor Who? A joke that always makes you laugh, a farewell that forever makes you cry? A villain's gloat that continually sends a shiver down your spine! Channel 4 to show 'Who in 3D!

Channel 4 is joining the 3D revolution by ordering UK-made content that can be viewed in 3D on standard TV sets. The broadcaster is planning a week of stripped peaktime 3D programming this autumn which includes the 1993 Doctor Who Children in Need special!

The special, called 'Dimensions in time' is a crossover between Doctor Who and the soap opera EastEnders. It ran in two parts on November 26 and 27, 1993, and was filmed on the EastEnders Albert Square set. Following the cancellation of Doctor Who in 1989, this was the last 'Who we saw until the 1996 TV Movie.

Recently CBR (Comic Book Resources ) pointed out "Tennants Doctor reportedly says the word "sorry" 120 times." So why is the Doctor is so apologetic? “I think he's guilty. I think he's in a very difficult position,” Tennant said. “He's making hard choices and he's riddled with remorse for what happened to his people and the part he played in that. Which we'll learn a little bit more about before I disappear. Not that much, just a little. It's not a three-part miniseries starring Paul McGann. I think he's tortured. He travels time and space trying to make it better—literally, it's like he's the Doctor--and then the consequences of that are not always as he'd wish them to be.”

Sad News...

You may know that Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead and Turn Left were nominated for awards in the Hugo Awards 2009. The results are now available on the official website, and it turns out that the episodes were unsuccessful in winning an award.

You can view all of the results here.
This is a big shock as Doctor Who has been successful these past few years, winning awards for all kinds of episodes, such as The Girl in the Fireplace and Blink.

Let's hope things change next year.

Tennant Is Still Equipped To Save The Universe!

David Tennant has recently confirmed that when he left the set of Doctor Who for the last time, he was given a present: the Sonic Screwdriver he used during the fourth series. He also got the suit he wore in the show. He said:

"There was crying but I suppose it would have been wrong if one had been able to just walk away. I did get a sonic screwdriver which I'm very, very proud of. I keep it on a shelf, near to where the suit is hanging up."

I'm really happy that he got a Sonic Screwdriver because Tennant had expressed how much he wanted one when he left but he didn't think he would because they are so expensive.

Of course, since we have a new sonic screwdriver next year they were able to give it to him!

Doctor Who's Second World Record

As if Doctor Who wasn't already successful enough, it's been revealed that the show has been awarded another Guiness World Record!

Doctor Who was recently awarded a second Guinness World Record for its consistent high ratings, popularity in downloads and outstanding sales of DVDs, books and other related merchandise. The award was presented to Russell T Davies at the San Diego Comic Con last weekend and the world record shows recognition of Doctor Who as the most successful science fiction series to date. Doctor Who received its first Guinness World Record back in 2006 when the show was recognised as the longest running science fiction show ever made with its first transmission taking place on the twenty third of November in 1963. Fans of the show also managed to gain a world record for the most Daleks gathered in one place a few years ago and the gathering place for the Daleks was the popular Doctor Who Exhibition in Manchester. Doctor Who News

IO9 has an interview with David Tennant and Julie Gardner which reveals some interesting stuff.

Tennant and Gardner say that there is no news about a Doctor Who movie and the rumours of an announcement of one being made at Comic Con tomorrow is not true.

David says that if every single audience member at Comic-Con comes to the panel dressed as The Tenth Doctor, he will do the panel in the nude!

They confirm that John Simm really is coming back, and Timothy Dalton is also guest-starring (Yes, we already know this but now they've confirmed it!)

Euros Lyn says that he showed the Tennant to Smith regeneration scene (This confirms that The Doctor will regenerate after there were rumours of The Doctor just continuing on his travels allowing space for a movie staring Tennant) to composer Murray Gold who bawled like a baby!

And sadly Russell T Davies said you shouldn't expect to see his supporting cast Martha, Mickey, Wilf, etc. turn up in the show after writer/producer Steven Moffat takes over. He says that Moffat is welcome to use the characters if he so wishes but Russell says Moffat will want to create his own characters.
Russell ends the interview by saying "Of course, for all I know, he (Moffat) could phoning them all up in Cardiff right now."

Wouldn't that be great if he was...
