The Waters of Mars Confirmed Transmission

David Tennant was on GMTV this morning and whilst on, he announced when The Waters of Mars is going to be aired. It will be shown at 7pm on Sunday 15th November.
I personally think that is a terrible date. It should have been on a Saturday and to make it even better, it should have been on Halloween.

Anyway, here is the full interview with Tennant:

2009 Specials News

In the latest issue of SFX, Russell and David discuss what's still in store for us in the three remaining specials.

Here's some information from it:

In the Waters of Mars (Which we discover in SFX is set in 2059), The Doctor and Adelaide are like two equals and at times, two rivals. As everyone else has said, it is very scary but we learn that they had to change one aspect of the monster on set to avoid traumatising children. Although it's an under-siege story, initial drafts had them all getting in a shuttle and flying to a hydroponic plant.

As for The End of Time, there are little aliens that appear throughout the story. Could these be slaves to the Master? I think we can assume that these are the little green aliens that Russell referred to earlier in the year. This adventure is Earth-bound but it doesn't all happen on Earth. After saying that, David asks if he's said too much. Obviously, he must be referring to Gallifrey!

Finally, in the last three specials, The Doctor experiences emotions which we haven't seen him experience before, and doing things which Tennant hadn't even conceived that the character could do before.

It's all getting very exciting now!

The Waters of Mars will be broadcast next month and part one of The End of Time will be broadcast in December with part 2 following either later that month or early January.

SFX is out today at the RRP of £3.99

Graeme Harper Interview

SFX has had an interview with Graeme Harper all about the Waters of Mars:

Just how scary is The Waters of Mars?
“I’m not sure if it’s as scary as Blink, but it’s quite frightening – because it’s so real, I think. I hope so!”

How on Earth do you go about making water scary? And what were the challenges of shooting with that volume of water?
"I hope you think it is [scary] when you see it! It was very, very difficult. We had a difficult time trying to work out how to do the water… can you imagine, the volumes of water that we required, in a studio setting? How d’you get rid of it? If you want to do retakes, how do you get everything dry again?

“The kind of water effect we wanted was sort-of mystical, almost organic – well, it is organic, obviously! – so the difficulty was deciding with the visual FX guys which one out of the effect they were offering us was the right one. They came up with five or six different kinds of pipes, hoses and systems. And eventually there was one that we all said, ‘That’s the one.’ There was a uniform yes to one particular effect, and that was the one we used.

“
Now, how do you make it creepy? It seems to be alive, the water, by the way it follows the characters in the story. Sort of – we didn’t make a big thing of it in the story, but that’s how I shot it, so it was chasing people, following them and trapping them. The best effects you can get come out of seeing the enormity of the water, the relentlessness of it. I think where it becomes really creepy and you get the fear, is when it continues draining out of characters’ mouths.

“There was a very complex system of tubes and piping that they all had to wear within the prosthetics – and water was squeezed and pressurized through the tubes to give the volume of water we required to come out of the actors’ mouths on a continuous basis.”

“Waters” is going out in November, when the evenings are darker than during the regular series run. Did you have that in the back of your mind when you were deciding on the tone of the show?

“When I first read the script, it was originally going to be put out on Christmas Day, I think! I was quite worried that this dark, deep story, which is… well, I don’t know that it’s part of a trilogy, but it certainly will lead you into the finalĂ©. You know something horrible’s going to happen after this story, involving the Doctor – but you don’t know what. I thought it was very dark – I mean, really dark, for Christmas. That’s not the reason they changed their minds to put it out in November – I think that was the controller of BBC One, deciding that maybe as we had three more to go, then one could be in the latter part of the year so that there wasn’t such a long gap between when the first special went out and Christmas. But when I knew it was going to go out earlier in the year, I was able to think about it in a much more dark way, rather than trying to keep the Christmas spirit!”

There seems to be some elements of foreshadowing in “Waters” – the stuff about the “four knocks”.
“I have to tell you, I haven’t seen, I haven’t read – in fact, I probably wasn’t allowed – to know how the next episodes, the final two-parter for David, starts and ends. I’ve no idea what it’s about! It’s going to end, obviously, with him regenerating into Matt Smith – but I’ve no idea what happens in it! So I don’t know to what extent the horror is in that two-parter. I knew about and read the previous script, I knew about the four knocks thing, so I understood what was going on, and what had been and what’s coming, and so on – in terms of the, “when four knocks happen, you know he’s going to die,” kind of thing. So I played on that, but I didn’t know quite what that meant and how it was going to happen in the last two episodes – and I still don’t!”

And the Doctor’s scared himself in this episode, which is a pretty unusual situation…
“Yes, but I think – with some exceptions, obviously – most fans of Doctor Who will know and feel sad and be hurt and worried and concerned – and wonder, is this the Doctor we’ve always known and loved, this ancient mariner traveling through the universe and helping people to help themselves, and being good and worthy and whatever, and showing them the way. And here he’s terrified. But I think that’s good, and I think most people will be interested to see how he gets out of this one. That what I think they think every time. But here, he really is in a very fearful state – and doesn’t want to die, obviously. I don’t think he wants to regenerate – I think he feels he’s got more to do, so how that gets resolved… well, I’m going to watch as well.”

You can read more of this interview in What Satellite And Digital TV issue 281, out on 29 October and the next SFX Special out on 18 November

John Simm Discusses The End of Time!

This morning John Simm appeared on the Jonathan Ross radio show to promote the play Speaking in Tongues, which he is currently starring in at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London but he was only too happy to speak about his return as the Master this Christmas:

“Ooh, he’s back all right!” Simm teased. “I can’t tell you [what happens] - the producers are sweating now listening to this! But it’s fantastic, it was such fun to do, and it’s brilliant to be asked to go back and play that character again, and Russell has written these amazing scripts, because obviously they’re David’s last hurrah as the Doctor.”

He added: “It’s a hell of a way to go though. It’s a great, great couple of episodes.”

He went on to reveal a few extra tidbits regarding the anticipated two-parter (”Ooh, it’s a two-parter all right!”), and as far as he’s aware, the first instalment will transmit on, as was already regarded, Christmas Day, and the second, The End of Time, will follow on January 1st 2010…

“It’s Christmas Day and, I think, New Year’s Day,” he said. “I’ve never been on Christmas Day before - I’m very excited! And it’s called The End of Time, so no pressure there then for the new Doctor!”

When asked by Ross if he had bumped into any other of the show’s stars during his time filming the story, Simm said: “[John Barrowman] was sniffing around on the set, but I didn’t get any scenes with him this time. I did last time. Last time I got to kill him about 13 times because he never dies does he?”

Interesting. Jack doesn't meet The Master this time.
It sounds quite Stolen Earth like. All of the companions doing their own thing but without all meeting up later on. Perhaps they'll all help in some way but The Doctor won't even know it.
Showing that even when The Doctor is all alone, he never really is.

John Barrowman News!

In the latest podcast by The Stage there is an interview with John Barrowman and he reveals that he is currently discussing the possibility of a fourth series of Torchwood with the BBC!
Hooray!

Also, John has finally hinted to The Sun that Captain Jack is back for The End of Time this Christmas.
Barrowman was seen on set alongside David Tennant and Bernard Cribbins during the filming of the Christmas finale but he insisted that he was not in the episode and even tried to convince fans that he was running to his car after stopping at Tesco's - in his own Captain Jack outfit! We've always known that was nonsense (especially since I did a check on Google Maps and the closest Tesco to where filming was was a 20 minute walk away).

Looks like we're yet to see the last of Captain Jack Harkness!

RTD drops lots of hints!

In two new video's, Russel T. Davies drops hints about the hand that picked up the Master' ring in The Last of the Timelords (3.13).

"Who says that she picked up that ring?" (Referring to Lucy Saxon)
"It looked older than Lucy Saxon's hand I would say, if you study that hand"
"We'll see more of that hand"
"It's not quite as simple as it sounds"

So it looks like the mysteries surrounding the ring shall not be mysteries for much longer. Though he did also say that the actual hand was producer Tracy Simpson.

He also said that John (Barrowman) and Eve (Myles) are dying to do a fourth series of Torchwood but it would be well into the new year before anything started happening. He said he would also come back and do it as well.

So the future looks bright!

The videos are here:

David Tennant's Last Line...

This is a page from the 2010 Doctor Who Storybook, showing a 'transmission from 10'. If you click on the image above, you'll be able to see it.
What's interesting is, there are some of Tennant's lines in there going backwards from "End Transmission" to "Begin Transmission!".
Here's a transcript of what those lines:

Don't Forget Me

One last look. Got to see...

????????? Can't be alive! No! The Gate...

...E Water! Get away from the w...

Scanning, but it must

...ntheon of Discord, targeting her, not her, not my wonderful Sar...

Saying goodbye, so many goodby...

Riding the TARDIS, riding the Earth, all of us! The Children of Time!

No, no, don't do that! Don't....

No spoilers!

Lied to you because I liked it, I could prete...

Good old J.K.!

...safe, she's with her family

...love travelling with you

Did you miss me?

Hello! Oooh, new teeth!

-

I've bolded the lines we're yet to hear.

This an interesting line we're yet to hear:
Riding the TARDIS, riding the Earth, all of us! The Children of Time!

So we'll be hearing that in an upcoming special!
Perhaps he goes back in time to the Series Four finale like he goes back in time to see Rose.
That would explain Captain Jack being seen.

The line I love a little Christmas, even with that Cyber King. Funny, that ???????????? comes before the line about water to I think that it's Christmas on the base on Mars. It could refer to the end of the Waters of Mars because it's snowing back on Earth but then the water line should come before it.

...ristina! Out there on the mighty 200!
The Doctor makes reference to Lady Christina (Maybe we see a flash of red zoom by in the sky).

...ntheon of Discord, targeting her, not her, not my wonderful Sar...
Not my wonderful Sarah Jane

...E Water! Get away from the w...
The Water! Get away from the water!
But why is that after the line about Sarah Jane who we know is in the finale?
Maybe The Doctor see's a tap dripping and has bad memories! Lol

????????? Can't be alive! No! The Gate...
The Master can't be alive! No! The Gate of Elysium!???

One last look. Got to see..
Wants to see himself before he regenerates?

And finally, Don't Forget Me.
So is Don't Forget Me Tennant's last line?
I seem to remember RTD said something about the last letter being N so that must just be the first part of his last name.

Banned! The End of Time News!

Hi everyone.

I`ve just had to ban someone from the cbox.

They were posting pointless, annoying messages and then when I asked who they were, they would not tell me so I have banned them.
I didn`t recognize the IP address and it is not someone who has posted before.

I think I know who it is but I won`t say incase I`m wrong but I really don`t think I am.
Anyway, the point is if you`re reading this, PM me on the DWFO Forum or email me so that I know who you are and I will then unban you.

Edit: I was right. It was DRfiguremaina!!!
He PMed me claiming that me banning him from the cbox (Nothing to do with blogger) has stopped him from accessing his blogger account and uploading his work. I very kindly unblocked him for a short time so he could log on and see if this was why he could not log on (Even though I knew it was not) and he said it still was not working. Not only that, he accusing me of lying about unblocking him and accused me of enjoying this. I have changed his ban. It will no longer expire in one week and will instead never expire.

I hope I don`t have to ban people in the future but if my blog becomes more popular then I`m sure I will need to as this is the case with most popular blogs. They alway get spammers.

So here are rules for the cbox:
- No Spamming
- No Impersonating (Pretending to be another regular cbox poster)
- No Bullying (It does happen on cbox`s)
- If I ask who you are for a certain reason, it is important so you must tell me. If you don`t want to post it you can email or PM me.

And I think that`s it.
Breaking these rules will result in a temporary or permanent ban.

So be warned everyone, I have the power :P

On a brighter note, the length of The End of Time has now been revealed!

This is part of a SciFiWire article about BBC America:

...our very last episode, coming at Christmas, Davids very last episode, is one hour and 15 minutes long... Russell T Davies revealed it a press conference.

The End of Time is 75 minutes long making it the longest episode of Doctor Who ever!

Bring it on!

Everyone had bad dreams...

I have found a spoiler which has not been discussed yet for the Christmas Finale.

This is from the IMDB Blog:

Davies explains the arc for Tennant’s final four specials in a note on BBC America’s site: “The mysterious Ood have told him that his song is ending soon; something deadly is waiting on Mars; Donna’s grandfather, Wilf, is experiencing strange visions; and a powerful psychic warns the Doctor that “He will knock four times…” The end is coming. But will the Doctor, and the human race, survive?”

So apparently Wild experiences strange visions.

I know, IMDB can't always be trusted but this sounds very true to me.
I also believe this because in the trailer for The End of Time, Timothy Dalton says "In the final days of Earth, everyone had bad dreams" and there are strong rumours that the first part of the finale is called "Nightmares Reign".

What do you think?

Is Rose in The Waters of Mars?

Below are four identical frames from the Waters Of Mars trailer, at 23 seconds there is some interference, if you play it frame by frame, this is seen, below are some enhanced pictures.

Some people think this is Rose.
Is it her? Could it be?

Also, some people think it`s a teddy bear the person is holding and some people think it`s a baby.

If it is Rose and it is a baby, is it baby Tony or has Rose had a child? Too many questions!

I personally don`t think it is Rose. I think it`s either a wife of daughter of one of the crew members on Mars sending a message. If it`s a wife it could be a baby she`s holding and if it`s a daughter it could be a teddy.

On the other hand, if it`s just a regular normal character, why have they hidden her in the trailer rather than a regular clip or shot of her?

Time will tell.

Lucy Saxon Returns!

Yes, that's right.
Lucy Saxon is returning alongside The Master in The End of Time.

This is from the official Doctor Who website:

"And the Master isn't the only familiar figure returning from Doctor Who's recent past. Executive Producer Russell T Davies, who wrote David Tennant's final episodes, confirmed that Alexandra Moen is back as Lucy Saxon, the character we previously saw in The Sound of Drums and The Last of the Time Lords. Although married to the Master she put a serious dent in their relationship by shooting him but what happened to her after the events of Series Three has remained a mystery, so far..."

I'm personally a bit annoyed about that. I didn't have a problem with her or anything in Series Three but I don't see why she needs to return. I think The Master seems like more of a threat when he's alone. After all, who's scarier; A crazy, lone, evil genius or a married, evil genius.

Oh well.

You can read the article on the Doctor Who website here.

Now, as I'm sure you all know, yesterday at Comic Con there was a Doctor Who Panel consisting of David Tennant and Russell T Davies among other names from the world of Who.
They released two trailers there.
The first is a very exciting new trailer for The Waters of Mars.
You can view this below:

A trailer for The End of Time was also shown.
There isn't a good quality copy anywhere but I can show you an okay quality version:

I think you'll agree that it looks very exciting.
And if you look carefully, at 0:20, there is a woman who looks very much like Harriet Jones.

Is it her?

I think so. We never saw her die in The Stolen Earth so I think The Master needs her and saved her or something like that. You may remember that in The Stolen Earth, when the Subwave Network (The Outer Space Facebook) launched, The Master's drumbeat could be heard.

I hope she's not returning though. It just doesn't seem necessary.

We'll get a better quality version of the trailer up as soon as one is released.

One thing's for sure; Christmas is gonna be very exciting and Tennant is gonna go out with a bang

The Time Lords Are Back!

There have been many rumours about the Time Lords returning in the Christmas Special and a few weeks back a photo was leaked on the internet of David Tennant (Dresses as The Doctor), John Simm (Dresses in black clothes) and Timothy Dalton (In Time Lord Robes). Some people refused to believe that the photo was real despite how realistic it looked.

But now, anyone who was still in doubt can not deny the return of the Time Lords any longer.

This is on Robert Bailey`s CV:
2009, Television, "Time Lord", DR WHO XMAS SPECIAL 2009, BBC

So Robert Bailey is appearing in the Christmas Special as a Time Lord and rumours say that he will be Leader of the Time Lord Council.

I for one am looking forward to Christmas!

Just an update on the magazine.
I have so far completed 5 of the 12 pages so work is coming along nicely.
However, I need your help.
Could you please send in some stuff for a page in the magazine where readers submit things.
It can be absolutely anything. A letter about some of the recent figure or filming news, a picture of your figures (re-enacting a scene) etc.
Basically anything.
It`s basically just a page where people send stuff in just like any other magazine.
Please PM me on the Doctor Who Figures Online Forum or send me an email at doctorwhodave@gmail.com
Thanks!
